Birthday Surprises...more than one

Scene: August 27, 2007. A sunny and hot day in NY. The King and Queen in their royal transportation. A conversation is started.

King: If you could have an superpower what would it be?

Queen: I would LOVE to be able to fly.

King: That would be great but what about if you were able to time travel?

Queen: I don't know flying would be awesome!

King: You know what I always wanted to do? Hang glide.

Queen: Me too! I have wanted to go for such a long time.

And so an idea was born. With the King's 30th birthday so close (today actually...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!) the Queen decided to make his wish come true. So she did some research and found a place 2 1/2 hours away for hang gliding. She called the King at work to make sure he was free that day and called the King's mom to see if she would watch the Prince. It was all set, all that was left was to have the day come upon them. The King could not hold out to find out what this trip was going to be, so he asked:

King: OK, so where are we going?

Queen: You really want to know? I was going to surprise you.

King: You can tell me.

Queen: You're sure?

King: Yes I would really like to know.

After a few feble guesses the King hits the nail on the head. Hang gliding! Actually it was more like hang gliding...gulp, face turns green, sweat starts to pour...really? Cool.

Long story short, (too late, I know) he simply can't do it. Too nervous of them both losing their lives and leaving the Prince parentless (Queen's words, not his). Alas, the money is non-refundable. So the Queen calls up the Royal Adventurer, her good friend Michelle. The day arrives and for the KING'S birthday, both ladies set off to enjoy his well thought out 30th birthday gift. Now you may be wondering, if he didn't want to go why did he say he did? King's response when asked that exact question: "It's one of those things you say you want to do when you don't think it will ever happen." If you are scratching your head right now, you are not alone.

Here are the picture of the King's 30th birthday hang gliding adventure...minus the King:

*Please take note that the last picture is of a 7 year old girl who went hang gliding.

There is also a small video:

Good for you, Queen! Looks like it was a fun experience for you. In my (ever-so-humble) opinion, if God's plan involved the Prince being parentless, he could probably come up with a way to carry it out, hang gliding or no hang gliding.

Happy 30th to the King.

I'm glad that your hang gliding adventure was a good one! However, when I look up in the sky now I have a hard time picturing you being way up there in what basically amounts to a piece of a swing set...
Whatever. We love you anyway -- craziness and all !

Happy Birthday to the King! We love you too!:)

The camera was attached to the hang glider and it was controlled by the pilot, Tommy.

If anyone out there wants to try it but they don't have anyone to go with...remember my number. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
